MAD DOG 2002 NEW HellCat

-- all pictures are taken by Tim Tang --

The HellCat short sword was originally designed as a Mad Dog variant of the modern short saber with some concealment possibilities. This "fighting stick with a razor edge" is a favorite among FMA practitioners training in espada y dagga. The original pattern was designed around 1995 and only a handful of pieces were produced. Since then, Kevin has modified his grinding and heat treat technique and, in 2002, wanted to update the pattern to reflect these advances. The reborn Hell Cat has a shorter choil and slightly longer edge, with a better overall look.

The HellCat sports a 14" blade, ground from 0.25" thick x 1.25" wide stock. It has a long positive included edge angle and a false edge that runs about 30% of the full blade length. Since grinding on this particular custom model is now done on a pre-hardened blank to prevent warpage, each piece bears the coveted "glowing temperline" which evidences the proprietary Mad
Dog selective tempering process.

This particular specimen weighs in at 444g (15.6oz) compared to my Panther which weighs 468g (1 lb 0.5oz). Center of balance is about 2 inches in front of the guard resulting in delightfully quick wielding speed with uncompromising deep cutting ability.

Sword sheath is standard with optional Dundee Rig available.
